Pit Bulls Get Scared Too...

“Coffee with Companions” is an original series by MAKKER that captures personal stories shared over a cup of coffee. Today, we brew a medium roast, black and learn that pit bulls get scared too…

Lima and Castle make up two thirds of what my wife calls “my tail” as they and my daughter tend to follow me wherever I go around the house. Well, unless it’s the kitchen – Castle is afraid of our floors! When we first got him, he was scared of concrete and the shelter had to carry him because he refused to walk on sidewalks.

One night, we dropped the dogs off at our sitter’s house. Shortly after, she called us worried that there was something wrong with Castle as he would not stop crying. I told her about his fear of floors, and how Castle always lies on a mini rug below our dining table. We’re convinced it’s his favorite spot in the house because he thinks the chairs protect him from the surrounding hardwood. Anyway, our sitter decided to put bath mats all over her floors. Almost automatically, Castle stopped crying and started walking around like nothing had ever happened!
